Disneyworld

We took our first real vacation to Orlando from May 14-23. It was very hot and humid, but Maddie had a blast. The food was HORRIBLE, but I have pretty high food standards. I must give props to Bahama Breeze...amazing food! The closest one is in Las Vegas. Looks like a Vegas trip is in the future :-)

My little princess over the last 6 months

I really need to keep this updated more often. Maddie has been doing a lot better on the new meds over the last couple of months, and is the closest to her normal self since before she was diagnosed with epilepsy. She is doing AMAZING in school...she just got student of the month for April and she has artwork being displayed at the Orange County Fair this summer! I am such a proud mommy!

2nd EEG and EKG

I have the most amazing little girl. She is such a little trooper. Even through the tears, she always manages to smile.

July 27, 2010-The news no parent wants to hear

I started noticing Maddie spacing out a lot, but first thought she was just daydreaming. I started to notice that I couldn't get her attention during these "staring" spells. I looked it up online and after a lot of research, came to the conclusion that she was having absence seizures. I took her to the doctor, who referred us to HOAG hospital for an EEG. We had the EEG on July 21, 2010. I could only let her sleep from midnight to 4 in the morning the night before. Needless to say, we were very tired and emotional that morning. Maddie cried as they were hooking her up to the machine. It doesn't hurt, but I'm sure it was very scary for her. She was such a trooper...managed to get a smile in for a picture. I had to hold back the tears. The test took about 45 minutes and after we were done, we went to In N Out and went home for a nap. We didn't get the results until 6 days later, but I already knew what it was. Having someone actually diagnose it was very hard to handle. We are on medicine #2 right now and hopeful that this will control the seizures with no side effects.

1st Grade

Madison just started first grade last week. She is the youngest in her class, but is doing very well. She loves math and reading and her favorite thing to do on the playground is the monkey bars.
